With the 2008 Olympics down with its first week, we have seen American swimmer Michael Phelps breaking world records and grabbing 6 golds in a row, becoming the Olympic athlete having the most gold medals to date.
However, we also have seen some seemingly invincible athletes bowing down to unpopular ones. Roger Federer, the Williams sisters, Yao Ming, Harry Tañamor – each one eyed on by their country men for the gold, slumped earlier in the competition and lost to less popular opponents. This just shows that no one is invincible and indispensable. It teaches us that we must be humble enough to acknowledge the possibility of failure and optimistic to believe that we always have a shot in winning, even though we feel others are better than us. Happy long weekend everyone!

Today is the start of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. It will be the 29th in the history of Modern Olympics. According to Chinese tradition, the number 8 signifies luck, joy, wealth and prosperity such that they even scheduled the start of the Olympic Games today [08-08-08] at 8:08:08 p.m to ensure ’success’ of this event.
The Philippines will be sending 15 delegates to this event and Manny Pacquiao will be the flag bearer. Will the Philippine delegation bring home gold? Let’s wait and see.
