Even before I had geology subjects in high school and college, I have already been fascinated with this science field. I like reading geo books and watching TV shows such as National Geographic and the like (haha nerdy!). Anyway, lately I noticed there were a lot of strong earthquakes occurring all over the globe. Just today I found two news entries about earthquakes: one in Japan ,the other in Greece.
I think the underwater volcanic activities in the Arctic as reported in the Inquirer have something to do with past earthquakes, including the destructive tsunami last December 2004. The study mentions for the past 10 years there has been active volcanic activity underwater on the Arctic that may have profound effects on other tectonic plates.

It mentions:

“Scientists suspected even at the time that a simultaneous series of earthquakes were linked to these volcanic spasms.”

“The mid-ocean ridge runs 84,000 kilometers (52,000 miles) beneath all the world’s major seas except the Southern Ocean, and marks the boundary between many of the tectonic plates that make up the surface of the Earth.”

Well, let’s just hope that these seismic and volcanic activities do not adversely affect us humans, especially us here in the Philippines which reside on the Pacific ring of fire.

I had an LSS on this song for the past few days. Probably because the song suits the mood for the damp and thundery afternoons lately.

Thunder by Boys Like Girls

Today is a winding road
Thats taking me to places that I didn’t want to go, whoa
Today in the blink of an eye
I’m holding on to something and I do not know why I tried

I tried to read between the lines
I tried to look in your eyes
I want a simple explanation; what I’m feeling inside
I gotta find a way out
Maybe there’s a way out

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you’re unlike any other?
You’ll always be my thunder, and I said
Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors
I don’t wanna ever love another
You’ll always be my thunder
So bring on the rain
And bring on the thunder

Today is a winding road
Tell me where to start and tell me something I don’t know, whoa
Today I’m on my own
I cant move a muscle and I cant pick up the phone, I don’t know

And now I’m itching for the tall grass
And longing for the breeze
I need to step outside, just to see if I can breathe
I gotta find a way out
Maybe there’s a way out

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you’re unlike any other?
You’ll always be my thunder, and I said
Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors
I don’t wanna ever love another
You’ll always be my thunder
So bring on the rain,

Yeah I’m walking on a tightrope
I’m wrapped up in vines
I think Ill make it out but you just gotta give me time
Strike me down with lightning
Let me feel you in my veins
I wanna let you know how much I feel your pain

Today is a winding road
That’s taking me to places that I didn’t want to go, whoa

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you’re unlike any other?
You’ll always be my thunder, and I said
Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors
I don’t wanna ever love another
You’ll always be my thunder, and I said

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you’re unlike any other?
You’ll always be my thunder
So bring on the rain
Oh baby bring on the pain

And listen to the thunder

- nice song too :)
